Six students from ANTH/ESCT 5950 have created a presentation/resource deck providing background for their intended final project and information on sustainable garment creation practices. This first project is meant to tie into the book 'Paying the Land' by Joe Sacco, a graphic novel about the Dene, resource extraction, and what we owe to the natural world. This group proposes we can "pay the land" by engaging in fashion sustainably and honoring Indigenous voices. The slides cover sustainable fashion, natural dyeing, beading, crocheting, shawls, and lithium fields. For their final project, the group plans to create a shawl using naturally dyed fabric to represent and make a statement on lithium fields.
